CU Baseball heads to Tarleton for weekend road series

LAWTON -- The Cameron University Baseball team will hit the road this weekend as they take on Tarleton State in a four game series starting Friday, Mar. 13 at 3 p.m, with games two and three on Saturday, Mar. 14 starting at 1 p.m., and the series finale on Sunday, Mar. 15 at 1 p.m. The Aggies are 7-11 so far this season with a 1-6 Lone Star Conference mark, while the Texans are 7-6, and 1-2 in league play.

The Starting Five
1. Both the Aggie and Texans previous four game series' got shortened to three due to rain..
2. Last season CU and TSU split a six game series, with Cameron dropping the two games in Lawton, but winning three out of four on the road.
3. The second and sixth innings have been trouble spots for CU with 17 and 19 runs allowed in each, while their scoring is spread throughout the first seven innings, with the bulk coming in the third (12), fifth (10), and seventh (10).
4. CU is second in the LSC with eight triples and leads the league with 73 walks, while giving up 73 walks to their opponents.
5. Tyler Cook is in the top-10 of the LSC with a .429 on base percentage, while leading the conference with 11 walks; Jonathan Reyes is tied for second with 10. Russ Colgan is tied for the league lead with three triples.

CU Notebook
-Cameron's roster consists of over 30 new players to the program this spring who will be led by first year Head Coach Brady Huston.
-Tyler Cook is leading CU with a .313 batting average, and has a team leading 15 hits, 20 total bases, and a .449 on base percentage.
-Dirk Masters has struck out a team high 33 batters in 25.2 innings of work. He has an ERA of 3.51 and is tied for the LSC lead with 16 batters struck out looking.
-Cameron was picked sixth in the Lone Star Conference despite finishing two games back of fourth place during the 2014 season.
-In 2014, the Aggies had the most players to sign with professional organizations in the South Central region with three (Codey McElroy, Tobin Mateychick, and Drew Reidt).
-Brady Huston is only fourth different coach to lead the program in the last 39 seasons.

Tarleton State (7-6)
-Tarleton State currently has a record of 7-6 overall with a 1-2 LSC mark after losing games one and two 10-2 and 18-0, but winning game three 3-1 against #8 Angelo State; game four was called due to rain.
-Under head coach Bryan Conger, the Texans have had winning seasons the past six years and have been nationally ranked every year since 2011. They are the defending champs after winning the LSC tournament last year.
-Jonathan Schmitz leads the club with a batting average of .548 and 17 hits so far this season. He holds a .613 slugging percentage, has knocked in 3 runs, and scored 8 times himself.
-Kevin Meredith is another great bat for the Texans, recording 17 hits and two homeruns. He has gotten 15 RBIs and scored 12 times himself.
-Matt Herrick has pitched in 4 games this season, 20.2 innings total. He has struck out 16 batters and currently holds a record of 2-1.

Last Time Out
-CU went 1-2 in what gas supposed to be a 4 game series against Texas A&M-Kingsville with game 4 getting postponed due to rain.
-The Aggies took game 1 against the Javelinas with a score of 6-5. Deven Youngstedt came out with the win. Cameron had a 6 hits, including a double by Jonathan Reyes, a homerun by Tyler McKinzie, and a Matt Nilmeyer walk-off single to end the game in the ninth. .
-CU mustardard just three hits in game two's 8-0 loss, while getting just one in the 1-0 game two loss. Javarias Banks gave up just one unearned run on three hits in his seven innings of work, while striking out seven and walking one Javelina batter.

Coming Up
The Aggies will follow up their road trip to Tarleton State with a trip west to take on Eastern New Mexico in a four game series, Mar. 20-22.
