Aggies to face SWOSU in second straight home-and-home series

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball team will look to stay unbeaten as they face Southwestern Oklahoma State in a four game home-and-home series that will take place Friday and Saturday.

Cameron started off the season 4-0 by sweeping Southern Nazarene in their season opening home-and-home series. CU started off by winning 7-4 and 4-3 on the road at SNU, and then came home and won 5-4 and 14-3 in a run-rule shortened contest.

Cody Knight started all four games for the Ags, and hit .500 with three RBI, while Cody Bower had five RBI over the four game span. Anthony Acevedo made his CU debut last weekend, hitting the Aggies first home run of the season, a two run bomb in game three of the series. Cameron had a good all-around start to the season as 15 players recorded at least one hit and 11 players recorded at least one RBI.

On the mound, CU got six inning starts from John Millan and Andrew Garza and five inning starts from Blake Welch and Oswaldo Godina. Welch and Godina each gave up just one earned run and had four strikeouts a piece, while Millan leads the group with six Ks. Reid Garrett, Tyler Abrego, and Javarias Banks each recorded saves during the first four contests, with Banks striking each of the three batters he faced in his one inning against the Crimson Storm.

The Bulldogs opened up the season with a two game sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State, beating them 2-1 and 11-1. They then followed the up with a 3-2 win over Central Oklahoma in their home opener last Wednesday to move to 3-0 on the season.

Jason Nichols is batting .455 through the first three contests, totaling five hits, including two doubles to go along with three RBI. Ruben Rodriquez hit .417 during the three game span, while Joel Baxley, Rogelio Sanchez, and Rafael Otero each had homeruns.

On the mound, SWOSU has used eight pitchers over the first three games. Jeremy Smith pitched seven innings during two appearances and struck out seven batters while accumulating a 1.29 ERA. Brendan Peitsmeyer threw the final 4.2 innings against UCO, striking out three and holding the Bronchos scoreless with just two hits given up.  

The two teams will play a doubleheader in Weatherford, Okla. starting at noon on Friday, Feb. 10 with the first game being a nine inning contest and the second one being a seven inning game. On Saturday, Feb. 11, the two teams will play a seven inning at noon, which will be followed by a nine inning game to close out the series.
