LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball team adjusted their schedule and will now host Northwest Missouri State for a three game series, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18.
The series:
Originally scheduled for a three day, three game series, Friday through Sunday, CU's slate against the Bearcats has been moved. The three game series will now be played as a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon, which will be followed by a single game on Sunday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
About the Aggies:
Cameron has started the season off strong, winning two out of three against Southwestern Oklahoma State and then sweeping Texas A&M-International in a three game series during the first two weeks of the season. They are coming off of an 11-5 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Wednesday, in which CU scored eight runs in the fourth inning alone.
The Aggies are batting .264 with 49 runs scored and four homers on the young season.Â
Kameron Good leads the way with a .44 batting average, while
Trey Bigford has a team best nine hits.
Cole Williams,
Micah Kaaukai, and
Mitch Sloan each have a team best eight runs scored, and
Colton Adams is first on the team and third in the conference with 10 RBI and has two homers on the season.
On the mound, the Black and Gold has a team ERA of 3.47 in 57 innings pitched with a combined 56 strikeouts.
Andrew Garza leads CU with a 1.50 ERA in 12 innings of work with 10 punchouts, while
Reid Garrett is 2-0 with 15 Ks in 13 innings of work. Additionally,
Sean Maher and
Skyler Henderson have been dominant out of the bullpen as Maher has 12 strikeouts in 8.1 innings and Henderson has 10 in nine innings of work.
Scouting Northwest Missouri State:
The Bearcats haven't had as much success as the Aggies have to start the season, going 5-1 in their first six contests. They started out by being swept by Arkansas-Fort Smith and the lost two single games to Lyon College and Henderson State. NWMSU earned their one win over Ouachita Baptist, 2-1, as pitcher Josheph Hietpas struck out six batters and gave up just two hits in 6.1 innings of work.
Northwest Missouri is batting .200 as a team with just 10 runs scored in their first two weeks of games. Alixon Herrera leads them with a .417 average, while he, Kevin Handzlik, and Jay Hrdlicka each have a team best five hits. Herrera and Luke Hassman each have three RBI on the year, as Hassman also leads the Bearcats with three runs scored.
On the mound, NWMSU has a team ERA of 8.36 in 28 innings of work with 28 combined strikeouts. Hietpas leads the team with seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work, while Brad Roberts has six in five innings pitched.
On deck:
The Aggies will play two mid-week games next week as they visit Southern Nazarene for a single game on Tuesday, Feb. 20, and then they will host Northwestern Oklahoma State for a doubleheader beginning at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
