Aggies host Savage Storm for mid-week contest

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball team will be at home on Tuesday, March 6, as they host Southeastern Oklahoma State for a single game beginning at 2 p.m.

The Aggies enter the contest against Southeastern with a 7-6 record after being swept in a three game series against Oklahoma Christian this past weekend. Luke Hughes led the Black and Gold with six hits and two runs scored, while Andrew Garza pitched 8.1 two hits innings with eight strikeouts in the game two loss.

On the season, Cameron is hitting .250 through their first 13 games with 62 runs scored. Out of the 98 team hits, CU has 22 extra base hits, including five homers, as they are also 28-35 in stolen base attempts. On the mound, they have a team ERA of 4.56 with 94 strikeouts in 104.2 innings of work, and an opponent's batting average of .261.

Hughes and Trey Bigford lead the Aggies with .364 averages and 16 hits each. Bigford has seven RBI and nine runs scored, while Hughes has five RBI, eight runs scored, and eight stolen bases. Micah Kaaukai leads the team with 11 runs scored and Colton Adams has a team-best 10 RBI.

Garza is 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA in 27.1 innings or work. He also leads the Aggies with 27 strikeouts and a .219 opponent's batting average. Additionally, Reid Garrett is 3-1 in 25 innings of work with 24 Ks and Skyler Henderson is 2-1 with 13 strikeouts and a 2.40 ERA in 15 innings pitched.

Southeastern Oklahoma State has started out the year 7-10 and has opened the Great American Conference season with a 4-5 mark. They are hitting .283 as a team with 90 runs scored and 45 extra base hits, including 15 home runs. SE has a team ERA of 7.17 with 128 strikeouts in 138 innings pitched.

Junior outfielder Easton Elliot leads the Savage Storm with a .350 batting average and four homers and 13 RBI. Travis Spinney is batting .333 with three bombs and 14 RBI, while Brett Akins had 12 runs scored and 10 RBI.

Cody Nitson leads the team with 25 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched, while Jake Patterson and Cody Johnson have totaled 16 strikeouts in 17 combined relief appearances. Additionally, Hayden Grimes has 23 Ks and Bryce Deatherage has 20.  

After their game against the Savage Storm, the Aggies will travel to Stephenville, Texas to take on Tarleton State in a four game series that does not count against the teams' Lone Star Conference records.
