 Washburn, who was from Apache, Okla., boxed for CU from 1948-49, and had a solid 13 year career.  In the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, Cameron Junior College had one of the best boxing programs in the nation, and Washburn is considered the finest welterweight to ever wear the black and gold. He was coached by fellow 2017 Hall of Fame Class member Jess Thompson, and was a two time State Golden Glove winner. Washurn reached the quarterfinals of the 1946 National Golden Glove Tournament and in 1948 he reached the semifinals, and both times he was beaten by the eventual tournament winner. He compiled a 54-6 amateur record and a professional record of 4-0-2. Washburn passed away in Lawton, Okla. on May 11, 1997.
