Mark Cotney is a former Cameron football player who played from 1973-1975. In 1974, Cotney was a NAIA 1st Team All-American and led the team to a 10-3 record, during which he led the team with five interceptions. He was such a force for the Aggies that in a game against Northeastern Oklahoma State University wherein Northeastern was driving in the final minute for a TD, on a QB option, Cotney blitzed, tackled the QB, caused a fumble, and then recovered the fumble to secure a win. Cotney was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the 7th round and selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the expansion draft the next year. He played nine seasons for Tampa Bay and retired in 1984.
